According to sharefaith.com:
"Louisa M.R. Stead (1850-1917) felt the call to the mission field at an early age. That dream was hindered due to her frail health. At age 25 she married and a year later gave birth to a beautiful baby girl; Lily. Several years after Lily's birth, Stead's young husband suddenly died while trying to save a drowning child. In response to her grief, Stead penned the words to Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.

"Years later, Stead would remarry. She would also realize her dream to be a missionary. Her daughter Lily would continue that dream by also entering the mission field. Stead's life was a testimony to the faithfulness of God.

"The words of Stead's poem were put to music by famed musician William J. Kirkpatrick, and subsequently published in several hymnals. The tragedy that prompted the lyrics of Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus has resulted in bringing comfort to many souls, for close to 130 years."

According to lectionary.org:
Naida Hearn (1931-2001) was a New Zealand housewife doing ordinary household chores one day in 1974––but her thoughts were on Jesus rather than laundry. She had made a list of the Biblical names of Jesus, and placed the list on the windowsill of her washhouse where she could see it as she worked.

As she worked, the words to this song began to come to her mind––and then a tune. Finding herself singing a line, she interrupted her chores to play a few notes on the piano and to transcribe the words and music onto paper. Then, of course, duty called her back to more prosaic chores.
But by the end of the day, she felt that she had created something important––and she had, indeed.

Lyrics

Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus:
Text: Louisa M.R. Stead
Music: William J. Kirkpatrick

Jesus, Name above All Names:
Text and Music: Naida Hearn

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take Him at His word
Just to rest upon His promise
Just to know thus saith the Lord

Yes tis sweet to trust in Jesus
Just from sin and self to cease
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How I’ve proved Him over and over
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
Oh for grace to trust Him more

I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend
And I know that Thou art with me
Wilt be with me to the end.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How I’ve proved Him over and over
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
Oh for grace to trust

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How I’ve proved Him over and over
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
Oh for grace to trust Him more

Jesus, name above all names
Beautiful Savior, glorious Lord
Emmanuel, God is with us
Blessed Redeemer, Living Word

Jesus, name above all names
Beautiful Savior, glorious Lord
Emmanuel, God is with us
Blessed Redeemer, Living Word

Jesus, name above all names
Beautiful Savior, glorious Lord
Emmanuel, God is with us
Blessed Redeemer, Living Word
